Clark Fork Field CampusNestled in a forested, picturesque canyon near glacial Lake Pend Oreille, the 35-acre (14 ha) Clark Fork Field Campus is a multi-purpose center for educational and research activities. The beautifully landscaped campus provides a secluded and casual setting that appeals to all. Nature trails and a creek add to the total experience.

Tour of the field campus

Scotchman Peak. This rugged mountain can be reached via Forest Service hiking trail number 65. The panoramic vistas from the top are breathtaking.

Clark Fork River and Delta. This wide, swift-flowing river is a great place for fishing and boating. The delta abounds in bird life, including many species of ducks, geese and other water loving birds.

Lake Pend Oreille and Denton Slough. Located a few miles from Clark Fork, and at Sandpoint, Lake Pend Oreille is one of the largest fresh water lakes in the continental United States. The lake offers outstanding opportunities for boating, swimming and fishing. Charter boats are available at some resorts. A swimming area, beach, and large camping area are part of the Samowen Campground on the Hope Peninsula. Denton Slough is a prime location for bird photography and fishing.

Fish Hatchery. The Cabinet Gorge Hatchery near the Clark Fork River is new and quite specialized for hatching young kokanee salmon and releasing them in Pend Oreille Lake.
